Are gas and electrical safety checks mandatory in Victoria?

What does a rental compliance inspection include?
Our rental minimum standards compliance inspections cover three mandatory areas:
- Gas appliance safety check
- Electrical safety check
- Smoke alarm testing & replacement
You’ll receive certificates of compliance for each inspection within 24 hours of completion.
How often do rental safety inspections need to be done?
In Victoria, rental safety checks are required at the following intervals:
- Gas and electrical safety checks: Every 2 years
- Smoke alarm inspections: Every 12 months
- Minimum Standards inspection: Required before the start of any new lease or tenancy
To help you stay compliant, we’ll send timely reminders before your next inspection is due — so you’re always covered.
Do I receive a certificate after the inspection?
Yes, you'll receive a certificate of compliance for each completed check for your records or agent submission within 24 hours of completion. We will also send a quote for any non-standard repairs required for compliance.
Is this inspection bundle discount only available if I book all three checks?
Yes. Our special bundle pricing is only offered if you book the three mandatory checks: gas, electrical and smoke alarms.
Do I need to pay upfront for inspections?
If you’re booking directly as a private landlord, yes—payment is required upfront. If your property manager books through us, we can invoice it directly to your company.
Are there any contracts or hidden fees?
No - there are no strings attached, including no set up fees, break fees or lock-in contracts. Our comprehensive deal pricing is fixed and no matter what the circumstance there are no add-on costs or fees for the testing/certificates. If there is an urgent/unsafe emergency repair required, we will call your agent or yourself for authorisation.
Do I get penalised if the tenants are absent on inspection day?
No. We will coordinate directly with your tenants and you are not required to pay any call out fees etc.
How long does a rental inspection take?
Each check typically takes 30–45 minutes, depending on the property size. A full bundled inspection is usually completed within 90 minutes.
Do you provide emergency safety inspections?
Yes. If there’s a suspected gas leak, electrical fault, or a failed smoke alarm, we offer urgent call-outs. Emergency fees may apply depending on timing and location.
Can I cancel or reschedule my appointment?
Absolutely. We offer free rescheduling with at least 24 hours’ notice. Last-minute cancellations may incur a fee if technicians are already dispatched.
